Aaron Judge did it!

Back in September, the entire baseball world was focused on Aaron Judge’s home run chase and his quest to become the all time leader. Fellow Yankee Roger Maris’ record stood at 61 so as Judge became close, all the sports networks broke away to show his at-bats. A hush fell over the stands at the stadium whenever he went to the plate and those at home were ready for their TikTok reaction video.

During the three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays (Sept. 26-28, 2022) he was ready to tie the record at 61 at any moment. Blue Jays  fans tried to thread a partisan needle by simultaneously rooting for their team to win and for Judge to get his fair share of swings. Whenever he walked, seven times in all, the fans booed their team’s pitchers.  Unlike at Yankee Stadium, where fans stood in near-silent anticipation each time Judge went to the plate, spectators in Toronto remained seated, for the most part, during his at-bats. But they did grow quiet as the pitchers went into their windups, and they “oohed” every time he swung his mighty bat.

And then, in an instant, all the tension and frustration behind tying Roger Maris’s record evaporated with a crack and roar. On September 28th, with Aaron Hicks on first base and the score tied in the seventh inning of game against the Toronto Blue Jays, the left-hander Tim Mayza delivered a full-count sinker that did not sink at all. Judge stepped forward, unleashed his murderous swing and sent a horsehide comet soaring to left field. It cleared the fence, banged off a back wall and bounced into the Blue Jays bullpen — and history. Judge had drilled his 61st home run of the season to tie Maris, and brought Canada into the record books along with him.

Presented is a game used baseball pitched to Aaron Judge from the Toronto Blue Jays series (September 26-28, 2022). This baseball was hit by Judge as a foul ball that went into the Blue Jays dugout where it was retrieved by a team source. The baseball shows game use with soiling throughout from the field and hit markings. It also features the special markings indicative of all the baseballs used exclusively when Judge was at bat. Collectively the unique markings only on Judge baseballs during the chase were used to designate the history in the making.  The OML (Manfred) ball features obvious coding “J-10” stamping sandwiching the MLB logo. Also present is several markings by MLB on different panels observed only under black lighting.

The ball is highlighted by Judge’s signature on the sweet spot in blue ballpoint (“9-10″) with a one-of-a-kind inscription on the other panel, ” 61st H.R. Tie AL Record.” The signature was obliged by Judge who relayed that this will be the only one ever for the Blue Jay’s team source. There are no other game used Judge at-bat baseballs with this special inscription like this on the market.

In terms of baseball history, the home run chase as well as anything New York Yankees is paramount in terms of excitement and collectability. This is a true home run way to capture the pursuit.
