Dennis Galehouse Game-Worn, Signed St. Louis Browns Flannel Jersey and Pants (Worn in 1944 World Series)

The Browns were not the Cardinals and never pretended to be, but in 1944 they beat the Yankees on the final day of the season to clinch the pennant and vault into the "Steetcar Series" against the Cardinals. The Browns were the visiting team in Game 1, and Denny Galehouse was the winning pitcher wearing this uniform. It has spectacular features such as a five-button front atop an orange-and-brown satin button path complemented by similarly styled collar, shoulder and sleeve trim. It has the war patch on the left sleeve; it has 3-D felt lettering and 6-1/2-inch numerals, "ST. LOUIS" on front and "30" on the verso. The period Rawlings label and "44 regular" appear in the collar.

Of unusual interest is the chain-link identifier in the waistband of the pants and jersey tail – "Sensoth" and "Sensoth 44" appear respectively. Galehouse recalls how he wore #22 when he came to the Browns in ’41. In ’44, with military summons beckoning, #30 was made for a player named Sensoth, who never actually played. When Galehouse was relieved of military obligation, he returned to wear #30 jersey. He continued to wear it in ’45 and ’46. But in ’47 Earle Combs wore it, and Galehouse returned to wear #22 in his final Brownies season. Wanna guess what he wore returning to the Red Sox in late ’47, ’48 and ’49? Give yourself a Brownies sleeve patch if you guessed "25." Yes, the numerology is dizzying, but it doesn’t detract from the beauty and uniqueness of this jersey/pants ensemble. Originally sourced from Galehouse, he signed the jersey in blue felt tip under the chain-link identifier in the jersey tail. A perfect 10!
