Presented is Hagstrom F300 electric guitar autographed by members of the band Stone Temple Pilots. Superbly autographed in gold paint pen (“9-10”) on the body of the guitar are signers Chester Bennington, Dean DeLeo and Eric Kretz. The autographs come from a unique era of STP as it’s from the Chester Bennington era. The guitar features surface wear and scratching from transport and storage.

The band’s lineup remained unchanged from its formation until the firing of Scott Weiland in February 2013. Vocalist Chester Bennington joined the band in May 2013 but left amicably in November 2015. Interestingly to note, both lead singers of the band Scott Weiland (2015) and Chester Bennington (2017) died.

This guitar originated from a Hard Rock Hotel & Casino employee who worked with talented musicians that came to the venue to perform. In the process of all the back stage antics (the partying, the moving and jostling, just dealing with rock stars), many of the guitars have battle wounds including scuffs, scrapes (etc.) and may have been played.

The consigner also worked with the curator of the historic memorabilia laden casino who had the access to many celebrities and musicians (and their memorabilia of course). As a collector, it was truly the place to be as it allowed his treasure trove to be amplified. He is now ready to bring some of those treasures to market. Take notice, in the process of obtaining autographs of the musicians he had them sign the body of a guitar which is more rare than the placed pick guard ones that are often brought to market. As a musician himself, he also made sure that the guitars in his collection were oftentimes elite models like this one.

Other interesting notes:

Established in the 1925 as a manufacturer of accordions, Hagstrom also has a long history of building guitars. Production of acoustic steel string and classical guitars dates back as early as the 1940‘s. In 1958, the first Hagstrom electric guitars were built. Covered in sparkle and pearloid celluloid with stamped metal logos, they featured an ingenious use of materials previously used in their accordion production. Over time Hagstrom’s range of instruments expanded into classic designs such as semi-acoustic and jazz models (“Viking®” and “Jimmy”), solid-bodies (“Swede” and “Super Swede”), and electric basses. The world’s first 8-string bass, the “H8”, was introduced, and became an instant success. Hagstrom guitars became known world-wide for their professional quality, excellent playability, unique features, and great value.

Chester Bennington formed his own band, Dead by Sunrise, as a side project in 2005. The band’s debut album, Out of Ashes, was released on October 13, 2009. He became the lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots in 2013 to release the extended play record High Rise on October 8, 2013, via their own record label, Play Pen, but left in 2015 to focus solely on Linkin Park. As an actor, he appeared in films such as Crank (2006), Crank: High Voltage (2009), and Saw 3D (2010). He died in 2017 at the age of 41.

The Hard Rock resort opened on March 10, 1995, as the world’s first rock and roll-themed hotel. The Hard Rock featured various memorabilia in conjunction with its music theme. Warwick Stone was the longtime curator for the Hard Rock Hotel and Hard Rock International. At the time of its opening, the resort contained $2 million worth of music memorabilia, including concert outfits worn by Aerosmith, Lenny Kravitz, Madonna, and Van Halen. The Hard Rock also had a display dedicated to Kurt Cobain, and a piece of the plane that Otis Redding died in. Other items included one of Elton John’s pianos, a drum kit used by Stone Temple Pilots, and the shoeshine stand that James Brown worked at as a child.
