Ryan Kesler is an American former professional ice hockey center. Selected in the first round, 23rd overall, by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Kesler spent the first ten years of his National Hockey League (NHL) career with the Canucks. He was traded to the Anaheim Ducks on June 27, 2014. He is best known for being a two-way forward and his agitating style of play, winning the Selke Trophy in 2011.

Kesler completed the 2009–10 campaign with a new personal best in points for the third consecutive season with 75 points (25 goals and 50 assists). With Mats Sundin’s retirement and Pavol Demitra being held out of the lineup with injuries, Kesler was moved to his natural center position and joined by wingers Mikael Samuelsson and Mason Raymond His 26 power play points ranked second on the team to Henrik Sedin. Playing on the second power play unit, he earned many of his points controlling the puck along the half-boards. He also averaged a career-high 19:37 minutes of ice time per game, which ranked second among team forwards to Henrik Sedin.

The NHL presented the annual awards for 2010 in Las Vegas (voting is by members of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association — except the Vezina, which is awarded by NHL general managers; Adams, which is determined by a poll of NHL Broadcasters’ Association members and Lindsay, which is voted by the players). This was the second year the NHL awards were held in Las Vegas. It was very difficult to get tickets for the Vegas show as the upper balcony seats were released to the public only.

In promotion of the 2010 NHL Awards show (May 27th, 2010), the Palms did an autograph signings with Ryan Kesler. Presented is a one-of-a-kind promotional poster that the Palms displayed for the autograph session. Kesler signed the poster in black felt tip (“8-9″). It was placed within a display that measures 26.5″ x 33”. It was obtained by a fan who was in line for the signing and went to the Awards show.  Note, Kesler was was impressed with her knowledge of his accomplishments with others in line and instructed the Palms team to get her the signed poster after the event.

Fast forward a few years on March 3, 2015 when the Arizona Coyotes and Anaheim Ducks faced off, the fan had another opportunity to get a Kesler memento. This time it went up a notch as it was his game used stick. As she sat behind the Ducks bench, she watched as Kesler scored a goal. In the process of the shot, his stick was broken in half. The wounded game-used stick was obtained directly after the game and was given to her from Kesler who instructed staff to bring it to her as he remembered her from previously. A photo style match for the steam from the first period of the game (before he scored) can be found on Getty images: 465192150.

It is an Easton V9 stick with obvious heavy wear (it’s broken in half) with scraping, rubbing, scuffs, hit marks etc. The shaft of the stick measures about 30″ (upper portion) and 31″ (lower portion) with the blade being 11″.  The handle/blade is affixed with grip tape. For identification, his name “KS” is screen-printed in white on the handle along with coding and an Easton hologram on the opposite side. It is for professional use only and also has his jersey number “17” handwritten in black felt tip on the upper portion. Protective tape was placed on the split ends as well for holding the halves together. Overall, it shows tremendous use.

Included as provenance with the lot is the NHL Awards program, ticket print outs from the Coyotes vs. Ducks game (March 3,2015) as well as the program from the game in which the stick was obtained.
