Presented is a limited edition print designed after an original acrylic painting by Alan Bean (1932-2018), Apollo 12 and Skylab 3 astronaut and amateur artist, entitled “Homeward Bound,” ca. 1994. The print is signed and numbered by Bean in black felt tip, as “Alan Bean” and “470/550” in the lower right corner. The limited edition print was published by The Greenwich Workshop, Inc. (Shelton, Connecticut). Printed in vivid colors and matted and framed, not examined out of the frame. Labeled “Novaspace Galleries” verso. The sight size of the print is 17.375″ x 18.75″ while the overall frame size is 32″ x 35″.
The print signed by the astronaut is “Homeward Bound” is Bean’s depiction of the Apollo 8 spaceship as it “emerges from behind the moon this last time with the welcome voice of Jim Lovell announcing ‘Please be informed, there is a Santa Claus.”
Alan Bean was an American naval officer and aviator, aeronautical engineer, test pilot, NASA astronaut and painter. He was selected to become an astronaut by NASA in 1963 as part of Astronaut Group 3, and was the fourth person to walk on the Moon.
