Dirk Nowitzki was a first ballot Hall of Famer and is widely recognized as the greatest European player to come to the NBA. He joined the hallowed Hall in 2023.  Presented is a jersey worn by Nowitzki during the 2004-05 seaon with the Dallas Mavericks. The highlight is that it features designated Playoff tagging. According to the MeiGray Mavericks letter, this is a White Set 2/Playoffs jersey for the 2004-05 NBA season. The Mavericks wore this set (A037) of jerseys for 24 regular season games and 7 Playoff games.

The home white knit with blue trim displays “Dallas” across the chest, with “41” offset below, and “Nowitzki” arched on the verso, with “41” below, all sewn-on in navy blue/sky blue on silver tackle twill.  A plethora of tags on the front the tail include: “NBA Authentics/Reebok Team Apparel,” “54,” “Play Dry,” “Length +6,” “2005-2006,” and “MeiGray Group Game Worn Jersey 2004-2005 A.” Overall, exhibits nice overall wear.

Before the 2004–05 NBA season, the Mavericks were re-tooled again. Center Erick Dampier was acquired from the Golden State Warriors in an eight-player trade. Also, Nowitzki’s close friend and fellow international teammate Steve Nash left Dallas and returned to the Phoenix Suns as a free agent, going on to win two Most Valuable Player awards with the Suns.

Nowitzki stepped up his game and averaged 26.1 points a game (a career high) and 9.7 rebounds; and his 1.5 blocks and 3.1 assists were also career-high numbers. On December 2, 2004, Nowitzki scored 53 points in an overtime win against the Houston Rockets, a career best. Nowitzki was voted to the All-NBA First Team for the first time. He also placed third in the league’s MVP voting, behind Nash and Shaquille O’Neal.
