Presented for auction is a super rare 1911 Boston Red Sox Quartette original generation 1 17×21 photo. Along with the photo is the player’s original business card listing all the Red Sox players advertising their singing. Some of the Red Sox players had organized a quartet. The singers, led by Bill Lyons, Hugh Bradley, Mart McHale, and Tom (Buck) O’Brien entertained the Red Sox players and the public when there were rain delays or canceled games. These players were all on the same team in 1911. The photo is framed in its original frame, the photo looks like it is in very nice shape. When Mart McHale signed with the Red Sox, he formed the Red Sox Quartette with teammates Buck O’Brien, Hugh Bradley, and Larry Gardner in 1910. Gardner left the group and was replaced by Bill Lyons, who was not a baseball player but was signed to a contract with the Red Sox “to make the name of the act look proper”, according to McHale. They performed in local venues, during the baseball offseasons. The group disbanded in 1913.Â
