Space Patrol is an American science fiction adventure series set in the 30th century that was originally aimed at juvenile audiences via television, radio, and comic books. The show (“high adventure in the wild vast regions of space,” trumpeted the announcer) ran from 1951 until 1955 on ABC, mostly on weekend afternoons.

Virginia Hewitt, was arguably the most attractive occupant of Commander Buzz Corey’s spaceship Terra when “Space Patrol” reigned supreme in the small galaxy that was television in the 1950s. In the series, Hewitt became Carol Karlyle, daughter of the Secretary General of the United Planets who, when she wasn’t helping Corey (portrayed by World War II flier Ed Kemmer) battle an assortment of evil-doers in the 30th Century, was trying to lure him into matrimony.

Presented is a red dress costume worn on screen by Virginia Hewitt in the hit television series Space Patrol. The short dress costume is classic red with a deep v-neck and white highlights accenting the waist and upper chest. The bottom skirt area is pleated. It was designed to be worn over another garment on top. The interior shoulders are padded for extra visual appeal on screen. Note, the back has a stuck in place zipper which would need attention for display purposes. A photo style match was found on a fan page showing Hewitt wearing the costume.

The dress comes with excellent provenance as it was obtained through the Moser family. Mike Moser was the producer/creator and when his wife remarried Greg Rhinlander the uniform was obtained through him.  It includes a provenance letter that reads as follows”

Thanks for purchasing my Space Patrol television uniform. The uniform was worn by Virginia Hewitt, who played Carol, daughter of the Secretary General of the United Planets. During the five year run of Space Patrol, Virginia wore two different uniforms. This was the second uniform she wore. She wore it 1953 to 1954 and 1955. After Producer and Creator, Mike Moser died, his wife Helen remarried Greg Rhinelander. When she died, Greg inherited the show and I purchased the uniform from him. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
