On January 16, 1961, Mickey Mantle became the highest-paid player in baseball by signing a $75,000 (equivalent to $680,000 in 2021) contract. DiMaggio, Hank Greenberg, and Ted Williams, who had just retired, had been paid over $100,000 in a season, and Ruth had a peak salary of $80,000. Mantle became the highest-paid active player of his time. Mantle’s top salary was $100,000, which he reached for the 1963 season. Having reached that pinnacle in his 13th season, he never asked for another raise.

Yankee fans still have a soft spot in their hearts for Mickey Mantle. The man ‘Baby Boomers’ idolized, Mantle signed this New York Yankees baseball cap broadly on the majority of the brim with a wonderful inscription. He penned a big silver paint pen (“9”) autograph with his number, “No. 7” as a rare inscription. The hat itself is a New Era – Diamond Collection size 7- 1/4 (100% wool) officially licensed MLB  cap with the tags still attached.

These originated from a longtime collector who acquired a substantial amount of autographs traveling to many trade shows on the East Coast in the 1980’s-90’s. All the signatures along with rare inscriptions in his collection (especially Mickey Mantle) were obtained in person.
