KISS is an American rock band formed in New York City in January 1973 by Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss. Well known for its members’ face paint and stage outfits, the group rose to prominence in the mid–late 1970s with its shocking live performances, which featured fire breathing, blood-spitting, smoking guitars, shooting rockets, levitating drum kits, and pyrotechnics. The band has gone through several lineup changes, with Stanley and Simmons being the only members to feature in every lineup. The original and best-known lineup consists of Stanley (vocals and rhythm guitar), Simmons (vocals and bass), Frehley (lead guitar and vocals), and Criss (drums and vocals).

Hot in the Shade is the fifteenth studio album by American rock band Kiss, released in 1989. It is the first Kiss studio album since 1981’s Music From “The Elder” to feature lead vocals from someone other than Paul Stanley or Gene Simmons, with drummer Eric Carr singing lead on “Little Caesar”. It is also the final Kiss album in its entirety to feature Carr before his death in November 1991. Unlike its predecessor album, 1987’s Crazy Nights, Hot in the Shade does not heavily feature keyboards.

Presented is a Hot in the Shade album slick that was autographed by four members of the band KISS. Signers in black felt tip (“8-9″) include: Paul Stanley; Gene Simmons; Eric Carr and Bruce Kulick. Note, Eric Carr, who had replaced Criss in 1980, died in 1991 of heart cancer and was replaced by Eric Singer. In response to a wave of Kiss nostalgia in the mid-1990s, the original lineup re-united in 1996, which also saw the return of its makeup and stage costumes.

The promotional slicks themselves were made for promotion of the band’s album and subsequently many were destroyed in the process after events were over. This one was autographed at one of the promotional events in black felt tip (“9-10″). The SLICK measures 12″ x 12″ and is affixed to a 16” x 18” matte.
