The legal instrument measures 15″ x 19.5″ and provided for the grant of 80 acres of land in Missouri to one William Woods. The land grant, dated July 15, 1825, is elaborately penned within a governmental pre-printed form, and duly signed by the Commissioner of the General Land Office, George Graham. The central attraction to this document, however, is the modest, but boldly legible signature of President John Quincy Adams, signed “J. Q. Adams (“9″). The official seal remains fully affixed but is thoroughly faded. Normal compacting folds include one vertical and two horizontal, and the only other qualification is an innocent 1/2″ tear extending from the top border. The display measures 16.5″ x 22”.
