Jake “Raging Bull” LaMotta vs. Norman Hayes Fight-Worn Gloves (w/LOA)

Although, Jake LaMotta was one of the most controversial boxers, he still had an outstanding record of 83 wins, 19 losses (4 draws), and 30 knockouts. Offered is a pair of his boxing gloves from his fight against Norman Hayes in 1952. LaMotta won in the 6th round. The six-ounce (ouch!) Everlast gloves (EFG6) show excellent wear and have aged considerably. A rectangular dark residue appears on both of these (just below the Everlast labels), but their significance is unknown. Lightly, but discernibly, “Jake LaMotta” appears in the inside wrist area of both – decidedly, these writings date to ring experience. To be sure, there’s considerable milage on these gloves. But none of the integrity of the pertinent details has been compromised. Specifically, the light-leather trim remains fully intact, as does every silly millimeter of stitching. There’s no abnormal damage (staining, punctures or any other distractions) to the surface of these gloves (on the face or palms of either). Even the original lacing has been retained.

As meaningful as these tools of ring may be, they’re attended by an impressive LOA. In detail, the handwritten text of this validation states – “These boxing gloves were worn by Jake LaMotta in his fight against Norman Hayes. They come from the personal collection of my father, who served as boxing commissioner. I guarantee they are authentic. [Signed] George Brown”.

Also included are three 8×10 black and white photos (copies of originals) from the fight at the weigh-in in 1952.
