Way back when, in the late ‘90s, Terrell Owens was a star on the rise, hoping to replace an aging Jerry Rice as the 49ers’ go-to guy. On the field he was talented…enigmatic…troublesome…charismatic all in the same breath. His amazing talent was rewarded when he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018.
Presented is one of his 2003 game issued jerseys from his time with the San Francisco 49ers in 2003. That year was his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl season. White tackle twill showcases his number “81” on the chest, shoulders and back, with “Owens” spelled in block lettering across rear nameplate. The labeling is present in the front tail – Reebok 52 with a year ’03 flag tag. The interior seam tagging shows the fabric content (100% Nylon), when it was made Spring ’02 as well as size 52. The shirt itself shows no wear characteristics deeming it game issued. This was more than likely a carry over jersey from 2002.. They wore this style jersey in the November 25th 2002 game against the Eagles.
Interestingly, it was an item that came directly from the famous purchase of Terrell Owen’s Storage unit as reported by TMZ. Overall, it is a great NFL collectible by itself but since it came out of the unit with the provenance of being owned by Owens it makes it that more special.
