According to the Elvis History, Presley’s practice of giving away scarves started in September 1970 in Phoenix, Arizona. At that show, Presley gave his green scarf to a young fan in the front row, and her joyous reaction eventually led to Presley continuing the practice.

Interestingly very few of the scarves that belong to Elvis that he tossed to female fans in his audience have made their way to the market. Presented is a green scarf that will make you feel the closest to Elvis you have ever been. Many of the scarves that have come to market have not shown great lineage. This one is part of a tremendous collection with outstanding provenance.

Joseph Zanni had a job at the International Hotel & Casino that many would envy. While Elvis Prestley had a residency (1969-75) there he was the hospitality liaison between him and his people (entourage). He took care of his room as well as food and beverage service to the King. During Joe’s time at the International he received many amzing items from Elvis and this is one of them.

Presented as part of Zanni’s collection is this green scarf. A provenance letter from Joseph Zanni will attend the memorable item and detail how he obtained them right out of a dedicated box in Elvis’ room (after he left the hotel) as well as the other items in from his collection. Note, it shows wear and discolorations. Perhaps being sweat stains from the King himself? The scarf is made of synthetic fiber measures 34″x35” and in excellent condition. Overall, a wonderful working relationship that turned into a gracious Elvis personal item. It deserves prominent display in any collection.

Elvis Presley was keen to resume regular live performing. Following the success of the Comeback Special, offers came in from around the world. The London Palladium offered Parker US$28,000 (equivalent to $223,000 in 2022) for a one-week engagement. He responded, “That’s fine for me, now how much can you get for Elvis?” In May, the brand-new International Hotel in Las Vegas, boasting the largest showroom in the city, announced that it had booked Presley. He was scheduled to perform fifty-seven shows over four weeks, beginning July 31. Moore, Fontana, and the Jordanaires declined to participate, afraid of losing the lucrative session work they had in Nashville. Presley assembled new, top-notch accompaniment, led by guitarist James Burton and including two gospel groups, The Imperials and Sweet Inspirations. Costume designer Bill Belew, responsible for the intense leather styling of the Comeback Special, created a new stage look for Presley, inspired by his passion for karate.

Nonetheless, Presley was nervous: his only previous Las Vegas engagement, in 1956, had been dismal. Parker, who intended to make Presley’s return the show business event of the year, oversaw a major promotional push. For his part, International Hotel owner Kirk Kerkorian arranged to send his own plane to New York to fly in rock journalists for the debut performance.
