Elvis Hand-Written Essay International Hotel COA Charlie Hodge & Elvis Step Brother

The handwritten essay comes with a Charlie Hodge-signed Letter of Authenticity dated August 14, 1994.  Elvis was Charlie’s good friend, and he lived at Graceland in a converted garage Elvis made for him until 1977.  Charlie was Elvis’s stage director, sang harmony on stage, and handed out scarves.

This is a gift bag from the International Hotel.  Elvis would write out one of his favorite essays, “The Man Who Counts’.  Elvis personally wrote the essay out and was trying to decide which part to use for a spoken intro to a song he was going to put in the show.  He couldn’t decide how best to use it, so Elvis discarded it and gave it to me, as I kept all the song arrangements and lyric sheets.

David Stanley- Elvis’ step-brother, received a request to view and authenticate this handwritten essay.  David spent 17 years growing up with and living with Elvis.  He is considered one of the foremost authorities on the life and times of Elvis Presley.  He has authored four books and been used as a consultant on numerous print, film and video projects.  After examination of a small bag from the International Hotel in Las Vegas with the essay “The Man Who Counts,” he authenticated that the markings and notes written on the bag were made by Elvis Presley.

These two authentication letters were copies that were laminated.    They accompany the hand-written essay on  International Hotel Gift bag.
