Dave Mustaine is the co-founder, frontman and primary songwriter of the thrash metal band Megadeth, as well as their sole consistent member. Mustaine has released sixteen studio albums with Megadeth, sold over 38 million records worldwide, with six albums platinum-certified, and won a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2017 at the 59th Grammy Awards, for the title track of their fifteenth studio album, Dystopia. Prior to forming Megadeth, Mustaine was the original lead guitarist of Metallica but did not appear on any albums. He was, however, credited on four songs from Kill ‘Em All and two songs from Ride the Lightning.

Presented is an awesome stage-used guitar from Dave Mustaine . It was from a Megadeth concert held in July (24th-25th) 1997 at “The Joint” at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The guitar itself is a sunburst style Jackson V guitar. They are the king of high-performance guitars, Jackson’s been designing instruments that exceed the requirements and expectations of modern metal players for more than three decades now. The back serial number plate dates the guitar to 1996.  This is the JAPAN version of the guitar.  We beleive that Mustaine used the better USA version of the Starbust V, but had this in his arsenal of guitars.  According to the tech, Mustaine used the guitar for a sound check, blew out the strings and cast the guitar aside.  This is the guitar that the TECH saved for KOMP radio.

This originates from a promotion director at KOMP Radio here in Las Vegas 1996-2014. It was obtained early in his career backstage at a meet-and-greet. According to the director, a record label executive had the guitar tech go backstage and grab a guitar for Dave Mustaine to sign for him. All of the actions happened right there in front of the director as after it came off stage Mustaine signed it for him. It was autographed in silver felt tip (“9”).
