1953 Playboy Magazine Inaugural Issue, CGC 4.0. Playboy magazine’s inaugural issue, released in December 1953, marked a significant moment in publishing and cultural history. Founded by Hugh Hefner, Playboy aimed to be more than a men’s magazine; it sought to embody a sophisticated lifestyle, blending articles on lifestyle, culture, politics, and literature with photographs of nude women. The cover of the first issue featured Marilyn Monroe, a choice that garnered immediate attention and ensured the magazine”s success right from the start. Inside, Monroe also appeared in a nude pictorial, a bold move at the time that played a crucial role in the magazine’s instant sell-out. This issue is missing 1/4 of page 10, as noted on the CGC label, but it presents very well. A key piece of 20th-century Americana. Encapsulated by CGC, 4.0 Qualified grade.
