Presented is a 1949 Bowman Jackie Robinson Graded RC Card. The rookie card is #50 in the set and was encapsulated and graded SGC 50 VG-EX 4.

Jackie Robinson will forever be remembered for breaking the color barrier as the first black player to play in Major League Baseball since the 1880s. Brooklyn Dodgers President and General Manager Branch Rickey told Robinson he was looking for a Negro player… “with guts enough to not fight back” when facing racial discrimination. Robinson endured unthinkable abuse from fans and occasionally players, but carried himself with dignity and poise as he helped the organization to six National League pennants and the 1955 World Series championship.

The 1949 Bowman set consists of 240 cards, each measuring 2-1/16″ by 2-1/2”. The series featured black-and-white player photographs with the addition of color to the team uniforms placed and backgrounds with several different pastel shades. Both elements marked major changes made by Bowman from the preceding year’s black-and-white production. The Jackie Robinson (#50) is considered to be the premier card in the set and is followed by Stan Musial (#24), Bob Feller (#27), Ralph Kiner (#29), Warren Spahn (#33), Pee Wee Reese (#36), Roy Campanella (#84), Larry Doby (#233), Satchell Paige (#224) and Duke Snider (#226).
