Presented is a flannel jersey game worn by Al Rosen during the 1949 Cleveland Indians season. The road shirt has the “CLEVELAND” text across the chest in block letters red-on-black felt. A black Rawlings [size] 42 patch appears on the back collar directly above a white wash instructions (DRY CLEAN ONLY) tag. Note, the square player tag below the wash instructions is not present but the outline is visible. Rosen’s No. 7 appears on the verso in red-on-black felt. The gamer also boasts the famed “Chief Yahoo” logo patch on the left sleeve. The interior back tail tag has been worn away. The jersey shows heavy wear/aging with patchwork repairs and discolorations throughout.

The 1949 Cleveland Indians season was the 49th in franchise history. The club entered the season as the defending World Champions. On March 5, 1949, Indians minority owner Bob Hope donned a Cleveland Indians uniform and posed with manager Lou Boudreau and vice president Hank Greenberg as the World Series champions opened spring training camp in Tucson, Arizona.

After serving for four years in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Al Rosen played his entire ten-year career (1947–1956) with the Cleveland Indians in the American League (AL). A stand-out on both offense and defense, he drove in 100 or more runs five consecutive years, was a four-time All-Star, twice led the league in home runs and twice in runs batted in (RBIs), and was an AL Most Valuable Player. Rosen was a .285 career hitter, with 192 home runs and 717 RBIs in 1,044 games. He was selected for the All-Star Game from 1952 to 1955. Rosen appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1955.
