1939 Goudey Premiums Ted Williams Graded Card R303-A Rookie RC – SGC Authentic

The 1939 Goudey Premiums R303A baseball card set consists of 48 cards, each one 4” by 6-3/16”. Printed on paper, each piece displays a player photo that extends almost to the edge, plus a facsimile signature. The fronts are printed in a brown-toned sepia. Card backs feature “How to” instructions, such as “How to Tag a Man Out,” and the Diamond Stars Gum name. (The name is misleading, as the issue has nothing to do with National Chicle’s Diamond Stars set, rather Goudey Gum). The set is anchored by the rookie card of Ted Williams, as well as cards for Luke Appling, Earl Averill, Joe Cronin, Bill Dickey, Joe DiMaggio, Bob Feller, Jimmie Foxx, Charles Gehinger, Lefty Gomez, Joe Gordon, Hank Greenberg, and Mel Ott. The Hall of Famers, most notably Williams, command a much higher premium than the “everyday” players in the collection.

Presented is an authentic example of the Ted Williams rookie card. The oversized card is from the 1939 Goudey Premiums (R303-A) set. The back showcases instructions on “HOW TO STEAL BASES”. The only visible determent is the tape remnants still present from previous display. This one was encapsulated and graded as authentic by SGC (noted, with trimming). Overall, a rare card that doesn’t come on to the market very often.
