Baseball card packs had a surge of popularity in the 1980s and ’90s, but it all started back when they were inserted in packs of Old Judge cigarettes in 1886. Yes, it was a great idea to get smokers hooked on their products. Cards in tobacco packs were common up until 1914 as America became involved with World War I.

Presented is an original unopened pack of Piedmont cigarettes (Factory 30, Dist. 4 NC.) dating from the era of T206 tobacco cards. Regardless of condition, you must appreciate its rarity as it has survived over the past century. The tax stamp is still intact and it was encapsulated and graded by Global Authentic NM-MT 8. However over the years, the bottom of the pack has since become detached with some of the tobacco now visible in the encapsulation.

Also note, this particular pack is not from one of the factories that was one of the six in which T206 cards were distributed. So, we would not recommend anyone purchasing the pack to open it for a card (understandably it’s also expired for use). Overall, it’s an intact treasure that is worthy of display alongside tobacco cards.
