Presented is a blue jersey that was worn by former University of Florida Gators player, Willie McClendon in the 1991 Sugar Bowl. On the front, back, and shoulders is the player number “5” screened on in white and orange. Nice special patches on the shoulders for the Sugar Bowl, sides are Spandex and the custom elastic sleeves are striped in team colors white and orange. It is highlighted by the two sewn-on patches on the shoulders for the Sugar Bowl. Across the back is his name “McCLENDON” on a nameplate. The Wilson tail tagging shows it is a “46“. The jersey shows decent wear with hit marks etc. The jersey was custom hemmed along the bottom per player specification. Overall, a great Gators game worn jersey.
The 1992 Sugar Bowl was the 58th edition of the college football bowl game, played at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Wednesday, January 1. Part of the 1991–92 bowl game season, it matched the eighteenth-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the #3 Florida Gators of the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
Notre Dame rallied late in the fourth quarter to upset the favored Gators, 39–28.The game is also known as “The Cheerios Bowl,” due to the comment a waiter supposedly told Irish head coach Lou Holtz at a restaurant that “the difference between Cheerios and Notre Dame is that Cheerios belong in a bowl.”
