Umpires 16×20 B&W Photo-From Teenie Harris Photographic Collection

Teenie Harris, photographer for the Pittsburgh  Black Courier back in the Hey Day of the African American Leagues, also played with the Pittsburgh Crawford’s and Satchel Paige.  This photo comes from the original negative from the Teenie Harris Archives.  16″ x 20″ photograph depicts two Umpires discussing on the field.  Photo shows great character and captures the feel of this great era of baseball.

The Pittsburgh Crawfords, popularly known as the Craws, were a professional baseball team based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The team was named after the Crawford Bath House, a recreation center in the Crawford neighborhood of Pittsburgh’s Hill District. The Crawfords were owned by Gus Greenlee. During the mid-1930’s, the Crawfords were one of the strongest teams ever assembled.
