“Two Girls Looking For Santa” 11×14 Photo (Original Print From Teenie Harris Estate – From the Pittsburgh Courier Archives)

Charles “Teenie” Harris was a trailblazer in professional photography. The African American artist’s atelier was in Pittsburgh where he operated an independent studio, but he plied most of his career in the service of the Pittsburgh Courier, the leading black Steel City newspaper of the time. It was a chronicle of a vibrant urban community during the Jim Crow and Civil Rights eras. In his images, he captured the city’s urban flavor in everyday experiences as well as people who shaped the 20th century – stars like Lena Horne, Jackie Robinson, John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr. Currently, the Carnegie Museum of Art is entrusted with many of his negatives archives.  With permission from his estate many of these iconic images are now available and are presented for enjoyment.

There is a reason the tv show, “Kid’s Say the Darndest Things” with Bill Cosby was a hit. This photo shows their action as one of the darndest things. Here are two cutie pies looking up the chimney (one with her bottom darn near falling out). We presume Santa might still be up there, somewhere. This gorgeous 11×14 black and white image by Teenie captures the essence of the two girls at their best. Stamped on the back as a genuine Teenie photo with permission from the Pittsburgh Courier Archives.
