In “The Red Sox, the Bean and the Cod,” Al Hirshberg, a prominent sportswriter for The Boston Post, has told the story of the Boston team from its purchase in 1933 by Tom Yawkey, a baseball bemused young millionaire, to that recent autumn day when a stunned Johnny Pesky saw too late the wild dash of Enos Slaughter toward home plate.

Ted Williams was an American professional baseball player and manager. He played his entire 19-year Major League Baseball (MLB) career, primarily as a left fielder for the Boston Red Sox. Ted Williams is regarded as one of the greatest hitters in baseball history.
