Marc Chagall was a Russian-French artist of Belarusian Jewish origin. An early modernist, he was associated with several major artistic styles and created works in a wide range of artistic formats, including painting, drawings, book illustrations, stained glass, stage sets, ceramic tapestries and fine art prints.
Presented is an original signed lithograph print by the artist Marc Chagal. This is a print from his etching. It is not numbered but is signed in graphite pencil by Chagal along the bottom border (“9”) and numbered 6. The display measures 21×24.
It is from the edition titled, “A man and his reflection (H. 152, S. 99)”. The original etching was 1927-30. Plate 6 of The Fables of La Fontaine, commissioned by Vollard after Chagall completed the etchings for Dead Souls. In the edition, 100 pencil signed impressions, 85 impressions hand-colored by Chagall, and 240 impressions (of which 40 are on japon paper) signed in the plate for The Fables of La Fontaine.
