Sir Edmund Hillary was a New Zealand mountaineer, explorer, and philanthropist. On 29 May 1953, Hillary and Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay became the first climbers confirmed to have reached the summit of Mount Everest. They were part of the ninth British expedition to Everest, led by John Hunt.

Presented is a color lithograph featuring Sir Edmund Hillary with Mount Everest in the background. Hillary signed the bottom in pencil along with the artist.

The artist James Lumbers, is a well-known Canadian artist who specializes in realistic paintings, many reflecting historic Canadian and Commonwealth themes.

The lithograph measuring 25×31 is embossed at bottom edge: “Hillary Conquers Everest May 29, 1953”. Limited edition, numbered in bottom left corner: “1823/1953”. Published by Newport Editions Ltd. of Toronto, Ontario Canada. ©1992 Seastone Enterprises Ltd. Printed in Canada. The lithograph has some wear around the edges and is in rolled condition.
