Presented is a powder blue Detroit Drive jersey that was worn by former University of Florida Gators and Drive player, Dwyane Dixon in the 1991 season. On the front, back, and each shoulder is the player number “89” screened on in orange/white tackle twill. The Areana Football logo is present on the right shoulder sleeve – BIKE logo on left. Across the back is his name “DIXON” sewn in white on a nameplate. The tail tagging shows it is a Bike with BIKE [size] XL collar tag. The jersey shows amazing wear with field/hit marks throughout and notable fabric tears and many repairs throughout. Overall, a great Drive gamer.
The Detroit Drive began play in 1988 as a member of the AFL. Under head coach Tim Marcum, the Drive finished the regular season 9–3 after starting the season 2–3. Two of the Drive’s losses came at the hands of the Chicago Bruisers, who finished the season with one loss. The Drive would get a chance at revenge when they advanced to ArenaBowl II against the Bruisers, and they were able to defeat the Bruisers 24–13.
Dwayne Dixon accepted an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Florida in nearby Gainesville, where he was a wide receiver for coach Charley Pell’s Gators from 1980 to 1983. Dixon led the Gators with 589 receiving yards as junior in 1982, and again with 596 yards as a senior in 1983.Dixon was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent in 1984, but he saw little action with the Buccaneers during the 1984 season. The Buccaneers re-signed him as a free agent in 1987, but again he received little playing time. Dixon also played for the Washington Commandos and Detroit Drive of the Arena Football League for five seasons from 1987 to 1991, and he accumulated 188 receptions and over 2,300 receiving yards with the Commandos and Drive.
