Oscar Charleston may have been the best Negro Leaguer ever to lace up the cleats – Yes, that includes even Josh Gibson. This 16″ x 20″ photo shows Manager Oscar Charleston in his Brown Dodgers uniform during the 1945 season, his only in Brooklyn. These Dodgers of Negro League renown, were the brain-child of Branch Rickey and his short-lived United States League. The photo was made from the original negative and has been identified as a Teenie Harris image by Dennis Morgan of the Pittsburgh Courier Archives.
