Presented is a vintage 1970’s Kansas City Chiefs jersey that was worn by Larry Gagner. The lineman wore this white mesh jersey as he represented Hank Stram’s Kansas City Chiefs. Number “79” screened on chest, verso and sleeves. On the left front tail is the “Russell Southern Co.” size 54 tag. The player number “79” appears on front, back and both sleeves in red on yellow screen print. Across the back is the player name “GAGNER” sewn in red on yellow tackle twill on a white name plate. The jersey has custom elastic sleeves. This jersey shows game-use with discolorations, stains, loose threads and some wear/fading on the identifiers/tagging.
In 1972, Larry Gagner finally returned to the field as a reserve lineman for the Kansas City Chiefs. However, he was frustrated by his inability to perform as he had before the accident and decided to retire during the 1973 preseason. Gagner came out of retirement in 1974, playing in a backup role for the Jacksonville franchise of the World Football League (WFL) for two truncated seasons. The WFL folded in 1975, and Gagner signed a free agent contract with the NFL’s expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March 1976.
