In 1936, Christy Mathewson joined Ruth, Wagner, Cobb and W. Johnson as the first class of Baseball Hall of Famers. A distinction that was well earned, considering the lengthy list of career accomplishments.
The T206 set has a possible 526 different card fronts, with over 100 featuring minor league players. Many players have multiple cards and are shown in a different poses, uniforms, or teams. The most expensive cards in the set are known as the T206 “Big Four”: Honus Wagner, Eddie Plank, the Sherry Magie error and the Joe Doyle Nat’l variation. The backs of the 1909-11 T206 White Border cards feature ads for 16 different tobacco brands from the American Tobacco Company. Ads for Piedmont & Sweet Caporal adorn almost 90% of the cards and are considered “common backs”.
