Crosley Field was a Major League Baseball park in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was the home field of the National League’s Cincinnati Reds from 1912 through June 24, 1970, and the original Cincinnati Bengals football team, members of the second (1937) and third American Football League (1940–41). It was not the original home of the current NFL franchise of the same name: the home of those Bengals in 1968 and 1969 was nearby Nippert Stadium, located on the campus of the University of Cincinnati. Crosley Field was on an asymmetrical block bounded by Findlay Street (south), Western Avenue (northeast, angling), Dalton Avenue (east), York Street (north) and McLean Avenue (west) in the Queensgate section of the city. Crosley has the distinction of being the first major-league park with lights for playing night games.

Crosley Field, which was originally named Redland Field, was home to the Cincinnati Reds from 1912 through 1970 and also played host to two Negro American League clubs: the Tigers (1937) and the Clowns (1942). Among the sights witnessed by occupants of this seat were the first night game in Major League history, which occurred on May 24, 1935, the first of Johnny Vander Meer’s consecutive no hitters, two All-Star Games, and a number of World Series contests. The Reds vacated Crosley Field in 1970 and it was torn down in 1972.

Presented is an original stadium seat from old Crosley Field in Cincinnati. This one dates back to the 1930’s. Most notable, is that it features a rare and highly desirable figural end piece. The endpiece, which displays the Reds’ familiar team logo, clearly defines it as a Crosely Field seat and further indicates that it was once located at the end of a row. Seats with figural endpieces have always been highly coveted by collectors and this piece is an outstanding example from one of baseball’s venerable old ballparks. The “3” seat is complete with all of its original wood and metal framework, both of which bear numerous layers of red paint. The seat has been mounted onto a wooden plank frame which allows it to stand freely. Loaded with character, this beauty is loaded with chips, dings, scratches and just oozes vintage baseball.

Due to the size and/or weight of this lot, shipping costs (depending on where it is sent and its method of shipping) may be substantial.
